1,000 BOOKS BEFORE KINDERGARTEN
1,000 Books Before Kindergarten is a program to promote reading for children from birth through preschool age. Anyone can read any book to the child. The books do not have to be library books or from our library. They can be read multiple times and each reading counts just as books read at story time also count. Two story time sessions are held each week at the library for different age groups.
Children get ready to read long before they start school. Research conducted by the National Institute for Literacy has found that learning to read and write is essential to school success. Those children who are read to from an early age have a larger vocabulary, better language skills, and have a greater interest in books when they start school. Family members, both adults and other siblings will be reading to these young readers – hopefully sharpening their reading skills and areas of interest.
Summer Adventures Program
Stop at the library to register any time beginning May 29th. Each item read or listened to between June 3rd - July 14th earns the patron a chance in our weekly prize drawings. It must be an Argos Public Library book, book on tape/CD or electronic device to count. Children are strongly encouraged to read at their reading level.
